Skincare is something that has always been really important to me. However, last year I found that instead of having a routine, I was just going back and forth between different products. So this year I decided that I would come up with a specific day to day skincare routine that is quick and easy to use.
The Products
Skin Deep
I would say that I have combination skin, with my forehead tending to be quite oily, whilst the lower part of my face is mostly normal/dry. I do get the occasional spot here and there and this is where my skincare routine really comes into play. If I have a little breakout then my skin is prone to getting a little post inflammatory scar that will slowly fade away to nothing. However, I can be a little impatient and anxious to have perfectly clear skin, so I always try to use exfoliating products as this can help with getting any marks to disappear quicker, leaving a clearer complexion.

| From Left to Right: Liz Earle's - Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser; Instant Boost Skin Tonic and Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion |
I was introduced to Liz Earles's skincare products a few years ago and recently I decided to start using them again.
I would usually start off my skincare routine using the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, something that I use both in the morning and in the night. This is a very gentle cleanser that foams a little bit when you massage it into your skin and has a very light scent, as do most Liz Earle products. It comes equipped with two pure muslin cloths. I think that this Hot Cloth Cleanser is a fantastic product to use for removing make up. Unlike make up wipes, it really does remove every last inch of make up, which is really important for achieving clear skin. The muslin cloth that comes with it adds a small element of exfoliation because of its texture, but as a whole this set isn't a strong exfoliant.
The second step of my skincare routine involves me using the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic and the Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion. I use the skin tonic all over my face to soothe and tone the skin and then follow that up with the eyebright lotion. This lotion helps to calm and soothe tired eyes.
L'Occitane's Almond Delicious Soap
As an alternative to the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, I will sometimes use soap to cleanse my face, but only if I am not removing make up. My soap of choice is the Almond Delicious Soap by L'Occitane En Provence. I have really fallen in love with this, as the name so rightly suggests, delicious soap! It is made up of ground almond shells which act as a great exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells. You can really feel the little pieces of almond shell when you rub the soap into your skin, which is great for helping to achieve smoother and clearer skin.
The Strong Exfoliants

| From the Left: Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid and St. Ives Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub |
Up until this point, I have shown you what I would describe as relatively low level strength exfoliants. However, there are two other exfoliating products that I have introduced into my skincare routine.
The first is the St. Ives Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub. This is a deep facial exfoliating scrub that I would typically use around two times a week to lift any flaky dry skin that I might have.
The second stronger exfoliant that I use is the Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid (see my previous Birchbox X Spectrum Sisters blogpost to see where I got mine). I mainly use this at night-time, pouring a small amount onto a cotton pad and then using it all over my face, as well as down my neck. It is one of my favourite exfoliants because the salicylic acid helps to remove dead skin cells, which helps reduce post inflammatory marks, and it also helps to settle any current inflammation that I might have.
A Final Word
As well as using all of the above products to help get a clearer skin complexion, one thing that has really helped me has been to increase my intake of water. I also make sure that I use a daily moisturiser with an SPF in it, to protect my skin from the sun, especially when using products that contain salicylic acid in them.
I really hope that you enjoyed this blogpost and are on your way to clearer skin with me!
