Jamaican Blues

Last month I travelled to the beautiful island that is Jamaica. This family holiday was really important to me because although I was born and bred in England, some of my family originate from Jamaica so it was a great opportunity for me to reconnect with my roots.

Moon Palace Jamaica Grande

For the duration of the holiday we stayed at Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, a beautiful 5 star, all inclusive resort based in Ocho Rios.

As soon as I arrived I fell in love with the resort, it was absolute paradise. Recently refurbished late last year, the modern decor made it the perfect place for our getaway. Our rooms were even equipped with our own bar as well as a sea front balcony. The staff were ever so courteous and attentive and I knew straight away that I was going to have an amazing stay.

There was an extensive amount of amenities and activities to do at this resort, a few of which I will mention. Some of my favourites included lounging on the resorts private beach, to relaxing by the pool bar whilst enjoying some complimentary cocktails.

In total there were four pools, 2 Jacuzzis, a gym and a range of restaurants offering cuisine ranging from Italian to Japanese, as well as the buffet that offered traditional Caribbean food.

Activities that I engaged in included:

'The Mighty Flowrider', where you could learn how to surf against the waves;
 The Dolphin Cove, something that I thoroughly enjoyed as I got to swim with dolphins;
Water activities such as canoeing (pictured above), boat rides, sea bikes and a water slide;
Club Noir; and
Awe Spa.

Places to visit in Jamaica

We took a few trips out of the resort to see what the rest of Jamaica had to offer!

Rick's Cafe, Negril

One of the first places that we visited was Rick's Cafe in Negril. As well as offering traditional Jamaican food and drink there was an opportunity to cliff jump. We also got to see professional jumpers dive! As well as this, there was a live band playing reggae music and a pool area which made for a fun day out!

Margaritaville | Negril Beach

Negril beach was one of my favourite places that we visited whilst in Jamaica. The beach stretches for seven miles and is just pure bliss. Whilst there I tried some of the delicious food and drinks that Jimmy Buffett's had to offer. There was also an array of activities to do at Negril beach, including banana boats and horse riding in the ocean.

Dunn's River, Ocho Rios

The final place that we visited was Dunn's River Falls, a rocky waterfall that you can climb up with a beach at the bottom. For me this was one of the highlights of my entire holiday. It took about an hour to climb the falls and was probably one of the funnest things that I have done this year. I really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it.

Looking back through my holiday pictures really makes me wish I was still in the Caribbean! Jamaica is an excellent holiday destination, that provides relaxation for those who want some time to unwind, whilst packed with activities for those looking for an adventure.
